Cataloging Volunteer Opportunity in NY

Cataloging Assistant volunteer position available at The Morgan Library & Museum (NYC)

The Collection Information Systems Department of The Morgan Library & Museum is seeking volunteers to assist in various cataloging activities.

Reporting to the Head of Cataloging and Database Maintenance, the Cataloging Assistant will create and update records in CORSAIR, the Morgan’s online collections catalog, in OCLC’s WorldCat, and in the local collection management system. The Cataloging Assistant will also assist the Department of Collection Information Systems in gathering and standardizing metadata about collection items, such as exhibition histories and bibliographies. Training will be provided as needed.

Library cataloging background is preferred, including experience with the MARC format, AACR2, authority control, online library systems in general, and OCLC’s Connexion client. Other computer skills, such as experience with Microsoft Access, and knowledge of foreign languages, are appreciated. Work involves sitting at a computer terminal and typing for extended periods of time. Applicant is expected to work independently as well as part of a team.
